Discipleship News:

Whole Life Generosity: A lifestyle of Thanksgiving!

Over the course of six weeks during Sundays in Lent, we are exploring the tenets of Whole Life Generosity. As was done two years ago under a different sermon series called, “Generosity: Moving Toward a Life That Is Truly Life,’ the joy of giving was unleashed here and our financial contributions and volunteerism increased. On Sunday, January 31, 2016, when our entire Sunday offering was collected to benefit two charities, Bethany Lutheran Church and Exploit No More, checks in the sum of $20,011.42 were gifted to each ministry. That’s HISTORY.

RIGHT NOW in 2018 in this 6-week Sunday series, we are studying Whole Life Generosity and again, challenging ourselves to release our gifts for Palm Sunday, March 31st, to two new charities in serious need of our help. Following the exhortation of 2 Corinthians 9:8, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work,” we are trusting God at His Word and we are doing the same! The two charities that will receive our Palm Sunday gifts this year are these:

*LINC-Milwaukee: Pastor Joe Robb builds relationships with leaders of faith in poverty stricken areas of Milwaukee. He serves the Lord by encouraging these leaders in their own walk of faith as well as in leading others in their journey with Jesus. You can visit the website at www.lincmilwaukee.org.

*Hope Street Ministry: Hope Street Ministry focuses on building authentic community with those who live at the ’Greenhouse for People’. The Greenhouse provides a refuge from toxic environments where people are safe to make connections and new opportunities in the areas of education, job training, Bible study, exercise and nutrition all in the context of a safe haven from one’s formerly unsafe and unhealthy environment. Visit the ministry website at www.hopestreetministry.org.

Won’t you join us in practicing Whole Life Generosity in the months and years to come? Become more active in the ministry at ORLC, both as we share our resources with these ministries – AND – as we seek to touch our community of faith AND those outside our walls with the life-saving message of Jesus Christ. Releasing our time, our talents, and our treasures are all ways to practice this whole life concept. You are reminded that it’s what God wants FOR you, not what God needs FROM you! You will be blessed as you release your resources through prayer and opening your hearts and hands to Him. To God be the glory!
