OPTIONS

The 4K program at Our Redeemer offers a variety of options for families. Parents may choose a 3 or 5 day a week program. If space allows, they may also enroll their child in Kindergarten Plus, which meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The morning class meets daily from 8:30 to 11:00 and the afternoon class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00-3:30. Children in the afternoon class who are enrolled in Kindergarten Plus come every afternoon. Children enrolled in the morning class and in Kindergarten Plus come M-W-F mornings and all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and go to child care from 11:00-1:00.

CURRICULUM

The 4K program is filled with activity! We use the Voyages curriculum from Concordia for religion. The children learn a new bible story each week—the 1st semester from the Old Testament and the 2nd semester from the New Testament. Our Houghton-Mifflin Pre-K curriculum is an exciting all inclusive program. It is based on 10 themes for the year and includes language arts, math, science, social studies, and art. The alpha-friends will teach us a new letter every week. It also includes several assessments to monitor student progress. You are welcome to review the materials—just ask. Or log on to www.eduplace.com/Prek. Play is also an important part of our curriculum. Here the children role-play and learn how to get along together. The following classes are offered each week: gym, library, music, and chapel. In gym, the children work on gross-motor skills and have fun! At the library, they listen to a story and check out a new book each week. Mrs. Seefeld, our music director, teaches music. The children go to a special chapel with 3K and 5K designed just for them!

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

  1. Friday, October 17, is Grandparent’s Day. The children may invite their grandparents or a special adult to spend all or part of their school day with them.
  2. We will take a trip to the pumpkin farm in the fall.
  3. On Friday evening, February 6, we will have a special Jesus Loves You Valentine activity in the evening for families of children in 3K-5K.
  4. On Wednesday, December 17, 6:30 PM, 4K-2nd grade will lead a special Christmas service.
  5. Friday, May 8, 6:30 PM, is the date for our 4K Spring Program.

We will sing in church on a few Sundays during the year. More information will follow. We have classroom parties at Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter.

THE CO-OP PROGRAM

Parents are a vital part of our 4K program by being active participants through the co-op program. About once a month, a parent serves as a volunteer helper in class. This allows them to spend time in the classroom with their child and helps us keep costs down. If a parent is unable to co-op, they can opt out by paying a certain amount each semester. Co-op duties include snack set up and clean up, helping with art projects, supervising play, and walking students to child care at the end of the day.
