My Christmas Vacation
by Cate
Mrs. Voigt's Class
Over Christmas vacation my family and I watched Christmas movies and played games. My sister, Amelia and I played in the snow. I found an icicle. It was very big. I acted like it was a guitar. I played a lot of soccer games and opened many presents. My family watched the ball drop. It was very fun!
One of the PTL fundraisers at Our Redeemer is the Annual Basketball Tournament! To make this weekend a success for the PTL, all students are asked to donate a drink item that will then be sold at the concession stand. The third graders are asked to bring in a 12-pack of regular Coke. If you are willing, please bring in a 12 pack, by Tuesday, January 13th. If atleast 75% of the third graders bring in a 12 pack, then Mrs. Van Dellen will supply both classes with a "pop" party! (Yes, it is called pop where Mrs. Van Dellen comes from!)
Christmas
by Jessica
Mrs. Voigt's Class
Christmas is the day of Jesus' birth! I like Christmas because we decorate the tree, bake cookies, watch movies, and go skiing. Also, I wrap presents. Sometimes, we go driving to see the lights. My favorite time is skiing with the Willer family. I enjoy baking cookies and eating the dough. It tastes good! I like Christmas!

Dragon Story
by Kennedi
Mrs. Voigt's Class
If I met a dragon, we will fly all night. We will play games before I go to school. My dragon can get me to school on time. I will feed him. He will be strong and healthy.
Please join us in Uncovering the True Meaning of Christmas as we present "The First Leon" this coming Wednesday, December 10th, at 6:30 PM. All 3rd - 5th grade students are asked to meet in their classrooms at 6:15. We hope you will enjoy this Children's Christmas Musical that we have prepared in order to worship HIM during this Advent season. We have spent a great deal of time working on this service – we hope you all will be able to come!
Instead of exchanging gifts in the classroom, we are collecting baby items for A Place of Refuge. This Lutheran ministry is for unwed mothers who are expecting babies and don’t have anyone to help them. Any baby item, big or small, is greatly appreciated!

My Astronaut Report
by Payton
Mrs. Voigt's Class
I am an astronaut going to the moon. I need to bring a helmet, spaceship, sun visor, food, water, spacesuit, and a shovel. There is no gravity and no water on the moon. The first two astronauts who landed on the moon were Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. It is hard work to be an astronaut because you need a lot of gear. There are 9 planets in space.

If I Ran for President
by Jolan
Mrs. Voigt's Class
If I ran for president, I would help our country be a better place. I would write the new laws for our country. There would be lower taxes. I would make speeches. I could help the hungry people and the earth. My home is the White House.
Turtle Report
by Naomi
Mrs. Voigt's Class
Turtles use their shells to keep them safe. The snapping turtle can get bigger than one foot. Amazing! Every turtle has a shell on it. Most baby turtles don't survive. The leatherback turtle is the biggest. Turtles are cold-blooded animals.

Your Vote Counts!
The 3rd, 4th and 5th graders of Our Redeemer welcomed two area Lutheran Schools to join them in hearing a presentation given by Milwaukee Alderman, Jim Bohl. On Tuesday, October 21st, Immanuel, Brookfield and St. Peter-Immanuel gathered with us to hear about “The Election Process: How Your Vote Counts.” A few of the questions that Alderman Bohl answered were the following:
ü How old do you need to be to vote?
ü Which group of citizens is most likely to vote?
ü Who can vote?
ü How do you effectively run for office?
ü How is the Federal Government organized?
Did you know…We actually have 51 separate elections for the President!?

Autumn Is...

Autumn is RED
like leaves that I always step on when I go outside in autumn,
barns I see when I go to the country,
and fire that I make when I'm cold.
Autumn is ORANGE
like sunsets I see every night before the sun goes down,
pumpkins that I pick with my friends on field trips,
and with my family every October on Holloween day!

Peggy was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Our Redeemer Lutheran School and Milwaukee Lutheran High School. In 1979, she received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Concordia-Seward, Nebraska. Throughout her teaching ministry, Peggy has taught in Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Her last 22 years have been at Our Redeemer teaching 3rd grade. She has completed various graduate courses and attended educational workshops. Peggy holds a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction License. She serves as a facilitator for the Reading Club and is the coordinator for the Accelerated Reader program.
Peggy believes that every child is a special gift from God. She encourages her students to always do their best with the talents and abilities God has blessed them with. Learning is a team effort between the family unit and the classroom.
Peggy is married to Jim whom she met at Our Redeemer. They enjoy going on dinner cruises, browsing through Amish shops, visiting historical sites, and spending time up north in Wautoma with family.
Our school theme for 2011-2012 is "All for ONE, One for All" based on Romans 12:4-5. God unites us together as one body of believers in Christ. We all have different talents and abilites, just as our body has different parts. Each one of us strives to do our part in serving Him and one another. May God bless our school year together.
