A New Year
A new year has begun in our special ed program. We welcome 17 students to the resource room this year, an increase of 4 over last year. Several of our students are new to the program and are learning the times they are to come to the room and the times to leave.
Since many of the time periods overlap, the room gets a little crowded at times! However, the students have been very cooperative in working quietly and choosing another seat if their favorite one is already taken! In the next couple of weeks we hope to have some volunteers in place who will be able to be the extra hands and voices to help during those "overloaded" time periods. We also hope to add a few seats and space to the classroom by purchasing tables to replace the desks.
Our school theme this year is "By All Means Connecting Others to Christ." That is a very appropriate motto also for the way I try to teach each student. I attempt to teach each student at a level that is comfortable, but yet challenging, for him or her. This requires finding appropriate material, adapting material, and reteaching in a way that makes sense to each individual.
