Vision for Resource Room

     The resource room at Our Redeemer is a place where instruction is tailored to meet the needs of each student so that students experience success in academic areas that are difficult for them.  The resource room is also an "emotionally safe place" where students are challenged without being frustrated as they learn to accept themselves and others in spite of their weaknesses.

     To contine and improve instruction in the resource room, some new elements will be incorporated into the classroom experience.  Recognizing that students learn in many different ways, students will be engaged in brain-friendly activites incorporating music and movement and other "hands on" activites whenever feasible to reinforce and review material.  I will also help students see connections between what they are learning in school to real life situations by incorporating newspapers, maps, menus, and similar materials into the curriculum.

      The resource room will also present itself as a comfortable and comforting place for students to learn by its visual appearance and overall ambience.  Posters, bulletin boards, and the like will incorporate colors that reflect a cheerful, calming, and positive attitude.  Prompts and information that help students will be posted around the room.  Music will be playing in the background at various times of the day to promote concentration and attention.  Smiles and positive attitudes will be displayed by students more often than frowns or negative attitudes.

     As a teacher, I will contine to model words and actins that demonstrate to students and visitors that our classroom is a place where all individuals are treated with respect and valued as children loved by Jesus.
