Here is what we do for the Star Student of the Week. It will be so much fun to get to know everyone through the school year.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Each week we will honor one student as the “Student of the Week.” As the

Student of the Week the child will:

1. be able to display 5-10 favorite photos of themselves and their family.

2. NOT have to take the spelling test that week.

3. complete the Student of the Week poster the weekend before the Star Student Week.

4. fill up the Estimation Bag (a quart or gallon size Ziplock bag will do the job). The Estimation Bag is an empty Ziploc bag. You and your child can fill the bag with anything—buttons, cotton balls, beans, keys, blocks, etc. Please fill it with “lots” of only ONE ITEM and YOU, PRIVATELY, count the number that is in the bag. Write the number on a small sheet of paper, without letting your child peek at it. Place the note in the bag or tape it to the outside. PLEASE do not tell your child the exact number because the fun part of this activity is the estimating and then their final counting of the items in the bag at SCHOOL.

5. bring in a special picture book (not a chapter book) for the teacher to read sometime during the week. The book will be a part of the display for the week.

6. be able to have a special guest come for lunch during the Star Student’s Week. The guest is welcome to eat our hot lunch or salad bar (sorry, second grade students cannot eat salad bar) if they want. The guest may also bring in a special lunch to eat with the Star Student.

Mrs. Denise Kegley is a five year veteran second grade teacher. She enjoys this age level and couldn't be happier! The children of this age are so enthusiastic for Jesus, eager to learn and enjoy the occasional joke. Mrs. Kegley has previously taught first grade and the four-year-old program at Our Redeemer Lutheran. In 2004-2005, Mrs. Kegley was honored to be listed on the "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" list. During her years at Our Redeemer. Mrs. Kegley earned her colloquy from Concordia University Wisconsin (2003) and her Master's Degree in early childhood education from CUW (1999). Before joining the Our Redeemer staff, she taught at Oklahoma Avenue Lutheran in Milwaukee and Good Shepherd Lutheran in East Troy, WI. Mrs. Kegley's home congregation is Our Redeemer Lutheran in Delavan, Wisconsin. Mrs. Kegley graduated from UW-Whitewater with a Bachelor's in early childhood education way back in 1990.

Mrs. Kegley's husband is Dustin and he is a City of Milwaukee employee. They were married in 1993 at Our Redeemer Lutheran in Delavan. They enjoy their family, bowling, movies and gardening. They have a spolied cat named Marble or perhaps the cat owns them, it depends on who you ask!

Mrs. Kegley plays the bagpipes in two local bands: Celtic Nations Pipes and Drums and the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums. She served on the executive board for the Fire and Police band for five years as treasurer and then as secretary. When she isn't grading papers, you will find her playing her bagpipes!

Mrs. Kegley also plays viola. She spent many years in the Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra and the Menomonee Falls Symphony. Now she plays with the Our Redeemer Morning Praise Band and any additional services when requested. It is a joy to serve the Lord through music! God gives the heart a voice to sound it's joy and calls it music. All gifts and talents are given by God, He has trusted in Mrs. Kegley to share that joy with the people around her.
