1.27.2012 Parent Letter
Kegley’s Classroom
Dear Parents, January 27, 2012
Happy Friday to you! Miss Gruen is slowly taking over content areas in our classroom. Spelling and Social Studies were her first two content areas. It is great having her in the classroom and she is doing a fantastic job bonding with your children. Remember to stop in and tell her good morning!
- Religion or Jesus Time included many Old Testament stories around King Davd: David and Saul, Jonathan Warns David, David Helps Mephibosheth, Solomon’s Prayer and Solomon Builds a Temple. Miss Gruen distributed Memory Verse sheets on Friday for the next month of MEMORY WORK!
- Reading this week included our reading book story, At the Firehouse. We did some work on questioning in our “Into the Book” interactive program. The A.R. challenge begins next week and it is a chance for us to read and quiz as much as we can. Then we see how we compare to other classrooms in our school and across the nation (the A.R. challenge is a nation-wide Lutheran school fun competition) with our reading and quizzing. January Book-It and the Read-to-Succeed (Six Flags incentive) continue to be on-going pieces. If you need these forms, please let me know. February’s Book-It fillable sheet will be coming home next Wednesday. These two incentive program can be combined, you can record the reading time on BOTH sheets.
- Spelling words were: GOOD ME NEW OUR WRITE. Homophones, irregular verbs and compound words were other assignments this week.
- In Math we wrote out numbers to 1,000 with words. We also added and subtracted multiples of 100, began multiplying by 2.
- In Social Studies we focused on INCOME, GOODS, and SERVICES. We established guidelines for our classroom taxation, involving the students and the bead system we use in our classroom.
- In Science we reviewed and tested on our Rock Unit. Miss Young has this to help you all out with retaking the test since it was a little confusing….
“I will make another version of the test. If you were not pleased with your students score and feel it was reflected because they didn't get a chance to study, I will have them retest on Monday. Please review the terms that I sent out and I will erase their old test score with the new one (if they do retake it).
I do want you to know that we did review for the test on Tuesday and I went through every test question. I don't like there to be surprises for the students on the test.
Please let me know if you want your child to retake the test. In Christ, Miss Young”
- Fun Friday project and a Valentine Heart art project.
The weekend project for you and your child is the Valentine’s box and Valentines for classmates. We will need them for the Valentine’s Day Party on Tuesday, February 14. Bring them to school. Please remember to bring your Valentines to school so we can mail them during our party on February 14th. Our party begins around 1:30pm time. Valentines need not be store bought but could be a homemade family project.
February 6th is the 100th Day of School and we are challenging everyone to bring in 100 cents ($1) for offering that week.
In Christ,
Mrs. Kegley
