Here is the current year's listing of teachers I work with in this exchange group. Basically, I like to have this here for those teachers who participate in the exchange.
We currently have Frank the Hot Dog touring from our classroom.
A class mascot is a chance to incorporate reading, writing, geography, responsibility, etc., etc.,etc., into your classroom.
In Preparation
1. Purchase a stuffed animal that reflects your classroom, geographic area, or that you just think is cute.
2. Take a spiral bound notebook and make it into the mascot's journal. (Decorate as you see fit.)
3. Include a book that compliments your stuffed animal. For example, I chose Look and See Michigan With Me since my stuffed animal is a teddy bear named Go Blue, after the cheer for the University of Michigan.
4.Look for a bag that the children will use to transport the stuffed animal, journal, and book back and forth to school.
During the Take Home Process
1. Have each child takes turns taking home the class mascot.
2. They should include the mascot in their family activities.
3. Before bringing the mascot back to school the family needs to write a journal entry. The entry should include their name, date, and all the fun events that they and the mascot shared.
4.When the mascot returns to school be sure to read the journal entry with the class.
My class mascot, Go Blue, has traveled all over the United States, had an extensive journal written about his experiences, and had his book read by hundreds of children. Not only that the students in my class have had the pleasure to meet 3 other class mascots. over the course of their kindergarten school year.
I hope you enjoy your experience.
