This will serve as a review of what we have been doing in the classroom. All children will be attending school in the morning and there will be no afternoon session of Kindergarten. Please refer to the permission slip for details.
Valentines Party
The Valentines Party will be held on Friday, February 13th. A list of all the children have been included for the children to write out their valentines. Jesus Time
This week we will be having the story of Dorcas and how she helped those in need as well as told them about Jesus their Savior. The Bible words are from the book of Romans 12:13 - Share with God's people who are in need.
Language Arts
This week we will be concentrating on the Letter V. The word for this week is "to". We will have another little book to take home this week.
Outside Recess
We have not been going to the snow mountains as they are too high and too icy for Kindergarten children. We have not been going on the playground for the same reason. It is very slippery and icy. The children have been given time to play inside. We will resume recess outside as soon as possible.
Jesus Time
This week we will be studying the parable of the Good Samaritan. We will be talking about who is our neighbor and how God wants us to help our neighbors. The Bible words come from the book of 1 John 4:19 – “We love because God first loved us”.
Language Arts
This week will find us concentrating on the Letter H. The sight word “a” will also be introduced.
Six Flags
Last week the form for Six Flags reading of 360 minutes or 6 hours was sent home. At the Kindergarten level the children can be read to and you can record the reading on the form. The form must be returned by February 27th to me. The children will receive a free ticket to Six Flags redeemable during the summer.
Snow make up days
This year’s calendar allows for three days of inclement weather. We have now used those days on December 19th, and January 15th and 16th. Should the weather cause problems with school, we will add a school day to our calendar on Thursday, June 4th, which is currently scheduled as a Teacher Record Day. However, 8th graders graduate that evening and would be excused from classes on June 4th. Their final tests and projects will be completed by that time. If two days are required for bad weather between now and then, we will use Friday, June 5th as a FULL DAY and end that final day with the usual closing Chapel Service and Award Service that afternoon. Presently, it is scheduled as the traditional short day with only a closing service and awards assembly.
Dear Parents,
We will be playing catch up this week after the unexpected time off last week due to the cold. The weather looks more seasonable this week and I am planning on taking the children outdoors on Wednesday and Friday of this week. Please remember to send along all of their winter clothing.
Jesus Time
Last week we did finish talking about what life was like for Jesus when He was a boy. This week we will have the story of Jesus in the Temple. We never did get to this as we were off of school. The memory will be the same as last week. The words of the 3rd and 4th commandment that we are using are "Worship the Lord" and "Obey your parents".
Language Arts
We have some work on the Letter N that needs to be finished up. I will be reviewing all of the letters that we have had so far so that we will be able to start a new letter next week.
Let's Find Out
We will be having two issues of Let's Find Out this week. On Tuesday we will be doing the issue about our newly elected President. On Friday, we will be doing the issue regarding Martin Luther King Jr. We planned to do this last Friday. We will be working on a special project with our Writing Buddies on Friday.
The second semester begins today. Progress Reports will be distributed on Wednesday. Please be sure to check your child’s backpack for the brown envelope. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me.
Tournament
The annual basketball tournament begins on Thursday after school and runs through Sunday. Each classroom was asked to help and support the tournament through a donation of soda to sell at the tournament. The Kindergarten class was asked to bring a 12 pack of sprite. This can be dropped off in the Kindergarten classroom.
Please refer to the Newsletter for the special dress days this week. Please keep in mind that Wednesday is dress up day and this means wearing nice clothes. Please don’t confuse it with wearing a costume.
The children that attend school in the afternoon will be attending a Pep Assembly on Thursday afternoon. It will start at 2:30PM. If your child attends school in the morning please feel free to return for the Pep Assembly if you desire.
Jesus Time
This week we will begin by talking about what life was like for Jesus as a boy. The other aspect that we will be talking about is when Jesus went to the Temple at twelve years of age. The Bible words are the 3rd and 4th Commandment. The words we will learn are: Worship the Lord for the 3rd Commandment and Obey your parents for the 4th Commandment.
Language Arts
This week we will be concentrating on the letter N and the children will be introduced to Nyle Noodle. The children will start bringing home some little books again. Look for them in the back pack.
Dear Parents,
I hope that you all enjoyed the extra day of Christmas vacation due to the snow. We will be getting back into our routine and schedule now that there are no practices for the Advent Service.
Jesus Time
This week in Jesus Time we will be focusing our attention on two stories. Monday and Tuesday we will be having the story of Anna and Simeon. On Thursday and Friday we will be having the story of the Flight into Egypt. We will have chapel as usual on Wednesday.
Language Arts
This week we will be concentrating on the Letter B. We also will be reviewing the color words and the sight words of I, see and my. Although the children had two weeks off, I feel that they will quickly be able to pick up where we left off in December.
Art, Library, Music
We will be back on our schedule of having Art Attack with Mrs. O on Wednesdays. We were working on other projects during December so we had a break from Art Attack.
We will go to the library on Monday, January 5th and begin our every other week library time. The next time we are scheduled is on January 19th which is a day off of school so we will go to the library on Monday, January 26th.
Mrs. Seefeld will resume having music class on Mondays beginning January 5th. This also was dropped due to the extra practices in church for the Advent Service.
Snow Mountains
I am sure that the snow mountains have turned to ice mountains so we will be unable to enjoy them until there is a change in the weather. Once again, we will follow the routine of snow mountains on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please be sure that the children bring all their gear on these days.
Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe that this is the last week of school before the break. We will be finishing up with last minute projects and practices for the Advent Service on Wednesday evening. The classroom will be open at 6 PM to drop your children off and you can pick them up in the classroom after the service is over. The morning children will be presenting the service for the morning chapel at 8:40AM. The afternoon children need not come for this service.
On Sunday, December 21st, the gym will be set up as a Christmas Village for families and friends. This will take the place of Sunday School. Be sure to stop by at 9:30AM on Sunday to help your children prepare for Christmas.
The classroom party will be on Friday at 10 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. The room mothers will be reminding you of any responsibilites that you may have for the party.
May God bless you and your family this Christmas and grant you a wonderful New Year.
Dear Parents,
Jesus Time
We will continue to take a portion of the Christmas Story each day in Jesus Time. We will also be practicing for the Advent Service in church. The morning and the afternoon classes are scheduled for two practices this week. The children are doing great on the memorization of songs and the line that they say with all the children. You will not need to spend time at home practicing.
Advent Service
The Advent service for K-2 is on Wednesday, December 17th at 6:30PM. The children will meet in the classroom and sit together as a class. After the service ends, the children will be taken back to the classroom and wait there until you come to pick them up. I will be in the classroom by 6:00PM that evening.
Letter T
I hope to finish one more letter before the Christmas break. We will not have as much time to work on the letters because of the practices in church as well as special Christmas projects that we are working on in the classroom. This will give us a good place to stop so that we are not in the middle of a section with time off for Christmas. We will introduce the word "my" this week.
Christmas Party
Both the morning and the afternoon class will have their Christmas party on Friday, December 19th. The morning class will begin their party about 10AM and the afternoon class will begin their party about 2PM. The room mothers will contact you to remind you of your responsibilities as well as contact you with any help that they might need.
Murf's Restaurant
Our Redeemer is having a fund raiser at Murf's Restaurant on Thursday, December 11th. Murf's will give 10% of the receipts for families that identify themselves as an ORLS family. The total purchase of food, beverage, ice cream and gift cards will be included in the 10% back to school. You may either eat at Murf's or take the food "to go". This will help Our Redeemer with school projects.
Dear Parents,
December will be a very busy month in the classroom. We will be doing our regular work as well as working on special projects. There will also be practices in church for the Advent Service as we get ready to celebrate the Birth of our Savior.
Winter weather has arrived. I am sure the "snow mountains" will be forming on the back of the playground for us to go out and enjoy after getting our work done. In the winter, the children need snow pants, mittens, hat and boots to play in the snow. Recess is at the end of the day so that we don't spend too much time dressing and undressing. Wednesday and Friday will be the days that we plan to go to the "snow mountains" in both the morning and the afternoon classes. This is due to music at the end of the day on Mondays and computers at the end of the day on Thursdays.
In Religion we will be taking a part of the Christmas story each day during December. We will begin with the story of Zechariah and the birth of John and continue each day with adding onto the story and concluding with the Birth of Christ. We will also be working on our Advent Service and practices in church will start soon. The children should be able to do all the necessary memorization of lines in the classroom setting.
In reading we are working on the Letter "R". We will continue to work on the color words as well as the words "I" and "see". We should be able to finish the Letter R this week.
Dear Parents,
This newsletter will cover two weeks since next week is such a short week. Please keep in mind that we only have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
I hope that you all enjoy your Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends. We have church services on both Wednesday evening and Thursday morning for Thanksgiving.
Jesus Time
We will be studying the story of Samuel. This story will be for both this week and the two days next week. The Bible words are from the book of Jeremiah. “Call to Me and I will answer you. Jer. 33:3.
Advent Service
Please mark the date of December 17th. This is the Advent Service for grades Kindergarten through Grade 2. It will begin at 6:30 PM. The children will also be involved in the chapel service in the morning. If your child is in the afternoon, they will not be a part of the morning chapel service. We should be able to accomplish all memorization needed in the classroom. I don’t have a copy of the service yet so if this changes I will let you know.
Reading
This week and next we will be doing the Letter and Sound for “M”. The new word that will be introduced is “see”. The children will start bringing home little books to read this week.
Nature in the Park
On Wednesday the morning and afternoon children will be going to the fellowship hall for a special presentation about turkeys. After learning about turkeys there will be a special art project that they will be working on. Be sure to ask your child what new things they learned about turkeys.
Novcember 10,2008
Dear Parents,
I hope that you all enjoyed the short weeks and the extra time with your children. We are back to a full week of school. The weather also took a turn and please you’re your child dress appropriately for going outside for recess. This is the time of the year when many articles of clothing are left behind. If anything is left in the classroom, I will keep it in the classroom. You can also find a lost and found table in the hallway going to the media center.
This week in Jesus time we will be learning about Gideon. Our Bible words are from the book of Proverbs. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5.
In the reading program this week we will be concentrating on the letter “S” and the sound that it makes. The work “I” will also be introduced. Last week we started to learn the color words. The words we started to learn were: red, yellow, orange, green, white, blue, black, brown, pink and purple. The children are learning them without the aid of them being written in color. They are using the beginning, middle and end sounds to identify the words. You may want to consider making flash cards and working on these at home as the children will be tested on them in May.
Dear Parents,
We have two very short weeks coming up. This newsletter will cover both this week and next week. This week we have parent teacher conferences and next week the teachers will be attending the pastor/teacher conference. Both this week and next there will be no school on Thursday and Friday. Be sure to sign up for Day Care if it is needed so that they can make plans to staff in advance.
The children will sing on Nov. 2nd at the 11AM service. They will be singing pre-service and will be free to leave with you shortly after 11AM. You can meet them in the narthex of the church. This is the Sunday that the Kindergarten is hosting the coffee hour.
Be sure to sign up for the Bible classes that are being offered during the month of November. They are being held on Sunday morning as well as at other times throughout the week.
The next story that we have during Jesus time is the story of Ruth. Our Bible words come from the book of Ephesians. "Be kind... to one another".
The library is having a book fair this week. The children will be taken in to browse on Tuesday. Please do not send any money. If you wish to purchase books, please arrange to take your child at another time when it is open.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the warmer temperatures!
Dear Parents,
We enjoyed having many grandparents visit our room on Friday. The children enjoyed having a special visitor. At times, I think we had more grandparents than children.
There are many dates to remember during the last weeks of October.
October 21st
The children will be bringing home the conference schedule in their backpacks. Please look for a pink slip of paper. If you have any questions about the conference time, please contact me.

October 29th, 30th and 31st
Parent conferences will be held at the time designated on your form. Remember there is no school on the 30th and 31st. Sign up for day care if it is needed so that they can plan accordingly.
Nov. 2nd
The children will be singing in church. They are to meet in the Kindergarten room at 10:45AM for a brief warm up and the opportunity for the two classes to rehearse together one time before singing. The will sing preservice and will be free to sit with your family and worship with you or leave if you attended another service.
Nov. 2nd
The Kindergarten class will also be hosting the coffee hour this Sunday. Please see the attached sheet to see how you can help.
Dear Parents,
We had a picture perfect day at the Apple Orchard. The weather was ideal. We reviewed all the apple facts we learned in the classroom and learned some new ones. Everyone enjoyed picking the apples from the tree. We were a little late in returning because the driver chose the scenic route.
This week in Jesus Time we will be starting the story of Joseph. This same story will continue next week. We will start with Joseph getting a beautiful coat and end with his seeing his father once again.
The Bible words for the next two weeks are from Matt. 28:20 "I am with you always".
We are finished learning about apples and will have a full week of reading activities and math activities. We will start with the letter Q on Monday and learn about how U is Q's best friend. We also hope to finish R,S and T this week.
Grandparents Day is on Friday. The grandparents are free to wander in and out of our room as time allows in their schedule. We are looking forward to seeing many grandparents on Friday.
If your child is reading for the Pizza Hut Book-It program, please make sure to return the form by the end of October. Be sure to look in your child's back pack for the certificate in an envelope. I try to put it in the same day or next day after they give it to me.
Kindergarten will be singing in church Nov. 2nd at 11AM. Please mark your calendar. The Kindergarten will also be hosting the coffee hour that Sunday. More details on both of these events will come next week.
Be sure to return your conference form stating your preference.
Dear Parents,
October is a very busy month and many forms were sent home. Just a reminder that our field trip is on Friday and the permission slips and money are due back on Thursday.
This week a form for choosing the date of the parent conferences was also sent home. Please be sure to return this form to me as soon as possible.
The PTL fund raiser this year is again the sale of pizzas. The order form and instructions were sent home on Friday. The money is due back on October 15th. Keep the order form and just note how many of eaach type of pizza was sold. Pizza pick up day is Saturday, October 25th.
The first PTL meeting is tonight at 7PM. The classrooms will be open after a short meeting in the church.
October 17th is Grandparents Day. If you did not send in your registration form, please do so as soon as possible. This is an exciting day and the children look forward to having their grandparents visit them at school.
Miss Collins will be leaving us at the end of the week. We will all miss her very much and wish her God's blessings as she moves to her next placement at Grace in Menomonee Falls. She will be teaching in a four year old Kindergarten class.
In Religion this week, Miss Collins will be doing some lessons on Psalm 23. The children will learn that the Lord is their Shepherd and watching over them at all times. They will also be completing an activity that goes along with the lesson.
We continue to make progress on the letter review. We are about to start the letter "P". We are also working with pattern blocks in math. We will be finishing our apple unit on Thursday and are looking forward to the field trip on Friday.
I am looking forward to seeing you at the PTL meeting tonight.
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that the calendar will turn to October on Wednesday. All of the children are in the routine of school and the days that we have music, art and computer.
The children will be bringing home a permission slip. We are planning a field trip to an apple orchard on October 10th. We have limited room for parent chaperones. If you would like to accompany the children, please talk to Mrs. Boehme. If the permission slip was lost in transit, please ask for another one.
An attachment to this newsletter is for the Pizza Hut Book-It Reading promotion. If you complete the page and list the books that you read to your child, a certificate for a personal pan pizza will be sent home. This coupon is good for one month. You can return the reading sheet at anytime during the month of October.
The story that we have in Jesus Time this week is Man's Fall Into Sin. The Bible words we are learning are from 1 John 4:16 - God is love.
Parent conferences will be scheduled for the end of October. Please watch the News and Notes for the form that needs to be returned to school with your preference for a day.
The News and Notes were sent via e-mail to you. If for some reason you did not get it, please verify your e-mail with me or provide me with one. There were a few e-mails that were not available from the school office.
Dear Parents,
I hope all of you have set aside Monday, October 6th, for the PTL Open House. There will be a short program and the classrooms will be open. I hope to see you there.
This week we are continuing in our study of Creation. The focus this week is on the sixth day when God created the animals and people. Our Bible words are from Psalm 100:3. The Lord is God. It is He who made us.
Miss Collins has been teaching a unit about our senses. This ties in with our Jesus story of the week of how God made people special. The children are enjoying a variety of activities. They will have a book to bring home at the end of the unit. They have been working on a page a day.
Please keep in mind that the dress code states that children are not to wear flip-flops to school. This is for their safety on the playground. It is too easy to fall when climbing or running. Please make sure that your children follow this rule.
Now that Fall is here and the weather will start getting cooler, jackets and sweaters and other items of clothing are often forgotten. If it is left in the classroom, I will keep it in the classroom. If you are missing something, please come in and look. So often when I ask I get the proverbial answer from the morning children that it belongs to someone in the afternoon. The afternoon children always say it is something that belongs to the morning children.
Thank you for bringing in the toilet paper tubes. We will be using these for a project a little later. I did not know how long it would take to collect enought for everyone.
