 Stephen Ministry is a program of Our Redeemer that equips lay persons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances.
Stephen Ministry is not professional care, such as counseling or other forms of therapy, and is in no way a substitute for these types of professional care.
Stephen Ministers are caregivers, they are not professional counselors or therapists. Stephen Ministers provide listening and support for persons who experience various common challenges of life and who do not need a professional care giver.

"Stephen Ministry is Confidential"
Your Stephen Minister will not tell others about your conversations or even acknowledge that you are receiving care. It is necessay, however, for your Stephen Minister to receive supervision in order to provide the best care for you.
This is accomplished through twice monthly meetings with a group of other Stephen Ministers to receive peer supervision for his or her caring ministry to you. This involves sharing appropriate information with the supervision group, but it does not involve disclosing the identities of those receiving care.
While your Stephen Minister is a lay caregiver, it may become apparent to him or her that your needs would be best met by a professional caregiver. Should this be recommended, you will be advised and may be asked to grant permission to your Stephen Minister t seek consultation from professionals about the appropriateness of providing care. This is done judiciously, confidentially, and only when it is for the purpose of providing you with the best care.
While receiving professional care, your Stephen Minister relationship may require the professional's permission in order to continue.
